  1. Do This In Remembrance, For Ash

My friend Ashley cleft the -ley in twelfth grade.
In an attempt to recover, she truncated her name,
just like her mom lost to breast cancer.

She spread ashes over Rockbridge, the gray
compost of childhood. A stained housecoat lies
in the bottom of Ash's closet now, plunder,

a stolen inheritance she sneaked away from Dad.
Today, she and I walked downtown together in each
other's clothes, twin messy buns and coffees in hand.

She calls me Jo, a nickname I share with her stepmom.
We both know her borrowed mom
cannot live up to the real one she imagines.

Jo can't teach her how to buy fruit, hem pants, dry roses
any more than I can. I did say, "Ash, every time
I wear pantyhose I remember my mom.

I can conjure her scent after an important day.
Yes, there was the cigarette breath, but we edit that out.
All of our mothers die," I tell her.

We do this only in remembrance: reinvent them
in our waking dreams, through other people, in us.
The memories, like dreams, do not come true.

They only live on in the ritual of reinvention.

  2. "The day I flew"
    today was the day
    the day i would fly
"Today I'm going to fly" ,I say
i get a running start to help me fly
then liftoff and I'm flying really flying
but only for a second before i land
that's when i began to understand
    that while flying is fun
I decide that I am done
because the landing is harder than it looks
so i will just stick to reading about flying in my books.

    1. "don't let her go"
Look her and I weren’t meant to be
      It wasn’t destiny
      That put us together
      And we weren’t forever
But all’s still fair in love and war
Too bad I can’t love her like used too anymore
I know you’re not full of yourself
      So think about this
She’s no doubt the kind of girl you will miss
      No need for any betting
Losing her is something you’ll never stop regretting
It’ll haunt you for the rest of your life
And no matter who you’re with
      No matter where you go
It’ll replay in your mind like your own personal horror show
No matter how hard you try to forget
      You’ll always know
That you shouldn’t have even thought about letting her go
And if you do let her go
      Then you will know
Every bit of pain that I have ever known

      is this better Mrs.Perkins

  5. "Thursday Night Lights"
The warm weather and the burring hot sun.
Waking up in the morning, knowing I will win tonight.
You go to school like every normal day,
But this night will be different than the rest of the week.

    Waiting in the locker room.
    You get into your uniform.
In your mind you prepare for the worst.
There will be a war tonight,
And my team will be victorious.
    Walking past the crowd,
It’s a rush like no other.
    You’re a gladiator and you’re in Caesar’sColiseum.
You have to put on a good show for the crowd.

    It’s time,
    You can’t prep anymore.
You run out onto the field,
With your teammates behind you and the cheerleaders cheering.
You go to the side lines,
    The coin has been flipped,
We’ve won the toss and now we choose to take the ball.
    It’s time to play.

    The ball has been kicked,
    No turning back now.
You’re on the field with your brothers.
    You must do your job,
And hope your team does theirs.

A few seconds left on the clock,
    You’re in the lead.
    Victory!
You and your brothers have won.
Time to celebrate and move on to the next battle.

  6. “Can’t Help It”

    I can’t help that I love you,
I can’t help what I feel when I’m around you
    The butterflies in my stomach,
    My heart pounding rapidly,
    Smiling like never before,
Feeling like no one else matters but you.

I can’t help that when I’m not with you
I can’t stop thinking about you,
All I want to do is be with you.
When you hold me, it’s like nothing can come between us,
Just being in your arms is like showing that you love me.
    Kissing you gives me butterflies.

But I can’t help that you don’t love me
    the way I love you.
I can’t help that you don’t think of me the way I think of you.
    I can’t help that.
I can’t help but think of all the things that we have done.

    I can’t help that I love you.
I can’t help my feelings when I’m around you,
I can’t help but to think about you when you’re not around.

  7. Summer with Ian

Sometimes on a bright, warm day,
I take Ian out to play.
He loves so much to be outside,
    Play, jump, run, and hide.

We might go to the swing set,
Or see the dog that he wants to pet.
Maybe I will pull him in the wagon,
Or he will act like a brave dragon.

Now the ice cream truck calls,
    And Ian’s attention falls
Towards a bright red cherry popsicle,
    “Thanks grandma, here’s your nickel.”

Later when he’s by a tree,
I hope he does not see a bee.
He will probably yell and run
Because he knows that those aren’t fun.

I think we will end our day in the pool,
The water will be nice and cool.
My baby cousin brings me joy
That can’t be replaced by any other boy.

  8. My Granny

    I love seeing my Granny,
    She lives in Greensboro,
So I see her maybe once a month,
She’s getting older and can’t do things she used to do,
I still love seeing my Granny.

    When we go see her,
The ride is like a bottom-less pit,
    But finally we get there,
But when we get there we go up the elevator then go into her room,
We see her either sleeping or watching TV,
Then we always get a list from her for groceries and necessities,

    After we get those,
We come back and hangout with her,
    Even though she’s normally asleep,
I still love seeing my Granny.

    When we have to leave,
I become sad but stay strong,
She makes my day when I see her,
But makes me depressed when I see her so helpless,
So we have to help her so much,
    I still love my Granny.

I give her my hug and kiss bye,
    And she does the same,
She always tells me how handsome and smart I am,
Then her eyes become red and she tears up which makes me even more sad,
But I have to stay strong,
    And despite all of that,
I still love my Granny with all of my heart.

  9. The Long Lost boy
    By: Jaylia Martin

    Long lost boy
There once was a little boy
Who was lost in this world?
Not knowing when to stay or go
He always ran away from home
Nothing could keep him in one home
He was going from home to home.

Not quiet knowing when to stay
    He’s always on the run
Looking and searching for the one
The one he could call mom
The one he would love more than
No other the one that birth
Him and who could also love
    Him like no other.

He never had a real one
    He thought he was stuck
    With just a father that
Couldn’t love him like a mother could his father
    Mistreated him horribly while
    Telling him horrible stuff
    About his mother
He grew to hate his father
    Never to look up him
Wishing and wanting to find her.

  10. 20 lines
    Due on Friday
    Started it on Monday
Do not know what to write
But still it is due on Friday
Better not waste all my time
Because it is due on Friday
    All 20 lines no less
All the time but nothing to write
    Nothing intresting or exciting
    To put down for Friday
    Just sitting
    Thinking.
    This is harder than steel
But still nothing down for Friday
Oh, I know exactly what to write!
    Nevermind, that will never work.
    For Friday.
Wait. I am writing something now.
    Is it a poem?
    Is it 20 lines?
    It is good for Friday.

  11. El Perdedor

I will tell you something and it’s true,
    Claro que si
And this is only about you

    There’s a saying,
“You don’t know what you fear until you lose it”

    I’ve seen you cry
He was the one to understand why

And he stole the most precious treasure
    Ahora entiendo

    No regret
    Just hate

Tell him I hate him for having what I once had,
Even though I am still responsible

    I consider him an enemy
    For losing the battle

    No control
    No regret
    Just hate

    So stupid for thinking,
I would be the only one you love
And now I’m just the loser
Standing right here after your shove

    I saw him coming
I didn’t think it was important
    At the moment

    Que siento?
    No regret
    Just hate

  12. Tony Hoagland; A color of the sky

Windy today and I feel less than brilliant,
driving over the hills from work.
There are the dark parts on the road
when you pass through clumps of wood
and the bright spots where you have a view of the ocean,
but that doesn’t make the road an allegory.

I should call Marie and apologize
for being so boring at dinner last night,
but can I really promise not to be that way again?
And anyway, I’d rather watch the trees, tossing
in what certainly looks like sexual arousal.

    Otherwise it’s spring, and everything looks frail;
the sky is baby blue, and the just-unfurling leaves
    are full of infant chlorophyll,
    the very tint of inexperience.

Last summer’s song is making a comeback on the radio,
    and on the highway overpass,
the only metaphysical vandal in America has written
    MEMORY LOVES TIME
    in big black spraypaint letters,

which makes us wonder if Time loves Memory back.

Last night I dreamed of X again.
She’s like a stain on my subconscious sheets.
    Years ago she penetrated me
but though I scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed,
    I never got her out,
    but now I’m glad.

What I thought was an end turned out to be a middle.
What I thought was a brick wall turned out to be a tunnel.
What I thought was an injustice
turned out to be a color of the sky.

Outside the youth center, between the liquor store
    and the police station,
    a little dogwood tree is losing its mind;

    overflowing with blossomfoam,
    like a sudsy mug of beer;
like a bride ripping off her clothes,

dropping snow white petals to the ground in clouds,

so Nature’s wastefulness seems quietly obscene.
It’s been doing that all week:
    making beauty,
    and throwing it away,
    and making more.

  13. I Am Poem
    I Am Monte’
My mother would describe me as different
    My friends call me monkey
    I keep to myself
I remember when I lost my grandfather
I’ve learned to just live my life to the fullest
    I hide my feelings
    I read no books
I shout out football is life all day every day
    I am short
    I want to be successful
I will never stop until I get to the top
I won’t ever give up on my dream
I can be unstoppable at times
I pretend that I am monkey sometimes
I sing that I am hopeful
    I am my mother keep
I dream to be make it
I am afraid that I will never make it
    I reach for the stars
I say I’m sorry when I mess up
    I love my family
I declare for the world to hear that I am made it
    I am a dream chaser

Mommy never got to see your eyes,
See you cry or even hold your hand.
She always dreamed and laughed about
What you would do if you were here now.

Mommy cried the day she went into labor
    early with you.
Mom and Dad never got to meet you face
    to face.
They had many decisions and plans if
only they had more time with you.

Mommy always prayed for you to be healthy
But,she never knew you would leave so soon.
She'll never forget the day you departed
    Around Five in the afternoon.

    She knew something wasn't right
Although we prayed for the both of you.
So now she just looks at your pictures
And cries herself to slep at night.

There are many "What if's" that are said
About you,as in what if you were really
To be born on November 16,2012.
But now all we can do is dream and mourn
'Cause we wish you were here.

We won't mourn very long because you're
    In a better place
You are going to always be
    Mommy's "Little General" but
God wanted you to be with him.

We'll dedicate many songs to you,
And never forget all about you.
    We'll pray for strength everyday.
None of mommy's dreams will ever come true
    Because God called you home.

You always be mommy's "Little General"
Always be in hers and our hearts
Soon we'll meet you in HEAVEN.
    Love Always,
    Auntie Ashley Ortega

  15. Why does this happen?
    I was determined at first.
    My confidence is now fading.
Should I have even tried in the first place?

Things always end up like this.
They never turn out the right way.
I feel like giving up all hope completely.

My friends tell me I should believe in myself.
    I wish I could.
    Things aren't that easy.
    No hope for me.

Along comes an opportunity and I take it.
    Damn it!
    Just a lie.
Like all the rest of them.
    No surprise.

Back to the same bitter place.
Wishing for someone who is worthwhile.
    Very few left these days.
None of which are for me.

  16. "Summer Where Art Thou?"
The bright sun that is so yellow,
oh it makes me feel so mellow.

Splashing of the waves on my skin,
makes my face put on a grin.

Because of the sand between my toes,
all the crabs become my foes.

Summer oh summer, where art thou beauty?
To warm up the world is your duty!

How I miss wearing my flip flops
and all of my cute colorful tops.

All the memories that are to come soon
make me want to sing a delightful tune.

The long summer nights at the beach
are what I want to be at my reach.

The warm weather can't come soon enough.
I'm tired of suffering the cold and being tough.

The flowers growing in the prairie
and maybe see a little fairy.

    Summer please come back
I want you to keep me in track!

  17. Spring

Today is like any other day
Though one month closer to May.
    More animals can be seen,
Though your eyes have to be keen.

I see bees on the trees near the pond,
Knowing that we have no bond.
Avoiding them as I walked through,
They look at me wondering what I am going to do.

Big blue broken waves on the small body of water,
Flipping fast fish flow fierce flaps frequently.
Yellow colored boats, houses, trucks, and cars,
Yellow powder not kept in jars.

    All I do is fish,
Then eat them on a dish.
    The fish tastes fine,
After I hook it fresh on my fishing line.

    I can’t wait till summer,
Green grass everywhere like a sea of algae.
    I don’t like those hummers,
Sounding like the band of drummers.

  18. Why Did She Have To Go?

Why did she have to go?
The woman who meant the world to me
The woman that made me smile through hard times
The woman that can make anything better.
She was there for me through everything
Why did she have to go?

    Faye Fox
    She was an intelligent woman
That always made things come true in a child’s life like mine
She was the best grandmother I ever could have but she had to go
I wasn’t ready for her to leave this world
She didn’t tell me she was about to go
Without her I don’t know where I would be in life right now
Why did she have to go?
Grandma I want you back with me
Was it really your time to go?

She was like a good smelling rose in the spring time
Blooming from a pretty rose garden
    But why?
Why did she have to go?
    The world may never know.

  19. Vegetables

There are different kinds of vegetables in the world
And in many colors like green, orange, yellow, or white
But we all know that kids don't like to eat their vegetables.
They would have a tantrum about the nasty vegetables they have to eat
They kick, jump up and down or just lie on the floor screaming.

They would rather get goodies like candy and ice cream
And many other treat. But sugars and sweets can make your teeth
Rot. Now vegetables on the other hand is sugars worst nightmare to them,
Trying to make them not rot anyone's teethes.
Vegetables are the one's for your kids; they can provide vitamins A & D.

Vegetables are nature's candies and treats. Eating a single piece
Of carrot can make you see well and that mean no glasses.
But eating a single piece of m&m can make you gain
Calories and you have to run about the size of a soccer field
    To loose that.

Vegetables are so green and healthy, candies so sweet and taste
So good but not good for your health.
Now kids think twice about what you want
The next time you go to the store for a treat

    The Time Is Now.
I woke up this morning the first thing that came to mind was that today was playoff game day.
I have been anticipating this day for the past week. I’m feeling nervous, but I’m ready.
All those weeks of hard work and dedication are finally going to pay off tonight.
After I eat a good breakfast I head over to school.
I can never concentrate in school on game days, especially not a playoff game.
I am constantly checking the clock. I’m ready to see the hour hand on the 3.

As I sit in class I reminisce all the good times at practice, at games and rides back home.
I think to myself that this season can either be over tonight or it can be extended.
All of the sudden I hear the bell ring.
I quickly glance over my right shoulder and smile, finally the time is here.
As I make my way to the locker room many friends tell me good luck, it is a great feeling.

I walk in the locker room and see all my teammates.
As we start to put on our uniforms I start to get butterflies in my stomach.
All of a sudden I get really nervous, but it’s a good nervous.
It is a nervous that makes me want to win more than anything at this moment.

After we are all done getting ready our coach walks in.
We are told of how proud he is of us and how far we’ve came.
What coach told us that stood out to me the most was when he said “Win tonight so we can practice tomorrow.”

When we walked onto the field I looked around and saw many friends this made me happy.
I asked myself why I wanted this win and my answer was for the team.
As the referee arrives we all go to our positions.
I take a look around, I feel as if I were pro.
The sun is down, and the stadium lights are on.
After long ways anticipation the time is now.

I also just like the fact that I can see what you do on game days; I've always wondered, really. It must be really exciting! I shall reward unto you the Chalice of Vigor. You are now under the watch of the Sabbadt. Come wielding your weaponry, and be at ready.

    The first time we met
    I was very shy
    my rst thoughts were
    "DANG! you're really cute!
you became my bestfriend and brother
    over the years we went
on a little date and it
    was awkward at first
    but i got comfortable
    then God called you home
    my eyes filled up with
tears as i heard the terrible news

    I find myself wishing that
    none of this was real
I wonder if you know how
    many lives you have touched
    days without you are lonely
    but even though you are
    gone now, that burning
    passion will never grow old.
    Sometimes I cry myself to
    sleep at night

you meant so much to all of us
    you were very special
    and thats no lie
    I shut my eyes
praying it was just a dream
no matter what I do but
I cant keep my mind off of you
you are a friend to remember
a friend I miss so much
I know you are in a better place
but I miss looking at your face
you were too young to die

praying it was just a dream
no matter what I do but
I cant keep my mind off of you
you are a friend to remember
a friend I miss so much
I know you are in a better place
but I miss looking at your face
you were too young to die
    I know things happen
    for a reason but can
    you just show me what
    this reason could be?

    Boom
    Saturday March 30th 2013
    they were heading home
    one of them I knew.

The vehicle changed directions towards their left,
car crossed over the center line
and caused them to go off the road.

“Boom” hitting a post, a golf cart and a tree
    Sudden impact
    Vehicle in half.

All three flew out of the vehicle
    as if looking for gold
    sudden impact
    one gone
    and two left.

    Ambulance, police, firefighters
    all a buzzard
that turned out to be a hazard.

One gone and left behind, two left
    One being airlifted
and the other in the ambulance.

    Now two gone
    and one left,
    in the hospital.

    I surprisingly
    almost crying, depressed,
    could not believe my eyes.

    Only 23 years old
    How depressing,
    What a tragedy.

  25. love is louder

    Love is louder than hate
    People don’t know that
    So don’t hate yourself,
    Love who you are.

Love is louder than the pressure to be perfect
So stand up for what you believe in,
Don’t do as others say, believe in yourself

    Love is louder than loneliness
    Grab a hand
    take a stand
    You’re not alone so
    Do it now,

    Love is louder than violence
Don’t hurt yourself because someone tells you too
Bullying is not the key to anything
    Love yourself, respect yourself
    Love others, respect others
    And you will shine through

    Love is louder with God
Open your heart to a world of new surprises
Because love is louder than anything

  26. The Pressure of Pressure
    Pressure, pressure
    What to do
    5 minutes til I present
I have no idea to what to write
    Not a clue

    Time flies
Not enough lies to make up
    Too much pressure
    Not enough to make up

    Heart racing
Head pounding like a heart beat
Life is too short to panic now
I can’t stand this, so much pressure
    Not enough time to last

Tears fall, rolling down my cheek,
I can’t stand this anymore, I just want to scream
    Time flies like the roadrunner
I hate this pressure is just too much
    This just sucks
    Oh no. Times up.

  27. Mussian
    Such a rare beautiful flower,
Which love wraps around like vines as the flower grows.
Though nothing but pain and sorrow,
As tears fall from the one who loves.
Thy blood spills as petals fall,
He hears the cry of his broken lover,
    “Mussian, Mussian, Mussian!”

    Such a rare beautiful flower,
    Thorns tare as skin separates,
Blood drips from the heart of the stem.
Until the cry of his lover,
    “Mussian, Mussian, Mussian!”

    Such a rare beautiful flower,
    To which passion is destroyed.
    Her life is now broken,
    His ripped into two.
The cries of her and sorrows of him,
    “Mussian, Mussian, Mussian!”
    Such a rare beautiful flower.

  28. Finding Myself

I've never seen myself has others have seen me
All thats been seen is pain, heartache, and ugly.
Everyday, waking up and looking in the mirror
    Looking at myself and asking
"What can I do so I will look better?"

    It started with makeup
Not something a 12 year old girl should wear.
I'd pile on the powder, the mascara, and the eyeliner.
I started to realize that I still wasn;t happy
I finally went to God, and asked Him to save me.

I've come to the point of "what you see is what you get"
I have my good days, my bad days, and some I wish I could forget.
I still don't have all of the answes, no one ever will,
    But I finally found myself.
    Love me if you will.

  29. "Big Time Perk"

I wish we didn't have to go to school
And we were all naturally smart
    If it was summer everyday
    It would enlighten my heart

I would not have to worry about what day it is
I can hang out with my friends whenever I want
    That would be complete bliss
It is my one and only thought

This is the season that is so beautiful
    Everything will change
The sun getting hotter to the days getting longer
    Anything in that range

Hanging out with all my friends
    Not only on the weeknds
We can go to the beach and the lake
To swim and tan until we bake

    I wish it was summer
Getting up for school is too much work
    School is such a bummer
And summetime is a big time perk

  30. Torn Between Skins
The pillow stained from the drippings of black mascara
You feel the tears still in your ears as they piled up last night,
    Lying blind and choked up,
The mirrors are the worst when you’ve awoken from the non-stopping train
You look at your reflection but all you see is pain.
Your lips pale and chapped; the red lipstick is far gone
The thumping in your head, it’s starting up again.
You clench your fist, you tug your hair, and at last you scream in despair
You mustn’t be seen like this so you put on your armor,
Your bright and shiny clothing; cover up the scars.
    You slip on your socks and then on to your boots;
You’re scared of the truth so you just make up lies.
The feeling of sadness has now come too far.
You take a deep breath as you’re turning the doorknob
Your heart starts to race and you’re face is now red
You push the door open and step forward to hell,
And that’s when you realize you’re just a poser,
    Pretending to be something you’re not;
Always torn between skins you just want to hide
But now it’s time to face the real world.

Millions of People, For Just 22 Men
    90 Minutes and it Ends
    Running and kicking and screaming
Just one goal and the all stop breathing
    Shoot Dribble and Cross
Just one move and they’re already across
    Watch that ball fly
Look how it soars across the sky
As if it were an angel
    One simple move
And you’re gone, as if you were never there
    You score, you’re a hero
    You miss everyone hates you
That’s how it always been in this sport
You can never really satisfy the fans
    They’ll end up wanting more

  32. School
    School: we need it
But we really don’t go to it.
    School has teachers
    School is lame
We have to go to it everyday
    But we still don’t change.
School is where some find friends
That act like themselves and dress the same
All my friends say it is lame.
School is nonsense to some people
    That’s what they say
But I think they’re saying that just to have fame.
School is not a place to play games
Sometimes you can have fun but mostly to learn.
School has dances for kids; that makes school fun
Until your teachers start screaming and yelling you can’t have gum.
Lunch is people’s most favorite time of school
But those are the kids who love to act a fool.

  33. Sins of the mother

    She did bad things
    She said bad things
She didn’t know they were bad
    Until she lost her daughter

    She had a son too
    But she didn’t care
    She only wanted the daughter
Cause we want what we can’t have

She fought and fought in court
For something she could never get back
    She said she’s sorry
    It only made it worse

The daughter was only a toddler
    A toddler
    Going to court everyday
To see her only mother yell at the person in the big black dress
To see her only mother get put in jail
    No men in sight

    No dad
    No mom
    The toddler was all alone
In this world full of hatred
    And it’s only the beginning

    Little would the toddler know
    By the age of 16
    She would dream of suicide
    Cry herself to sleep
    Destroy her skin

    Goodbye to the innocence
    Of the toddler
With tears of confusion in her eyes
    Watching her mom fight back
    While being carried away
By the men with the evil guns

    The little toddler
    Who is now 16
The only person she talks to
    Is a tiny purple bear
    That her mother gave her

She never expected this to hurt others
    But it did
    It hurt her daughter
    Her son
    Her family

She isn’t the only one suffering
    From the consequences
    So is her daughter
    No mom
    No dad
    No hope

    Little Boy

Once upon a time there was a little boy
Who was born in the capital of Illinois
First name Billy, last name McCoy
Never had a father figure,he was always deployed
But still he prayed to God, and expressed himself with joy
Little boy was good at sports, scouts drawn to the noise
Mama struggling, crying to little boy
Saying they wouldn’t make it, little boy got annoyed
Little boy dropped out, and found himself with some guns,
Joined all type of gangs Krips & even Bloods,
He through his life away, disappointed his love ones,
Found himself caught in jail wishing there were reruns
When little boy got out, he started running, and he fled
He owed people money, and they were after head
He started panicking and going crazy, so the “Feds” were mislead
“Put them hands were I can see them!”, that’s what one officer said
Little boy was under pressure and put the gun to his chest
Heart was saying “NO”, but mind said “GO AHEAD”
    Bang!
    Bang!

……. Damnn now little boy dead.

  35. Him

    She introduced me to him.
    He thought I was gorgeous
I felt butterflys in my stomach

We started talking more and more
He would say sweet things and I would just blush
His eyes glittered like the stars in the dark sky when he looked at me.

We would hold hands and hug.
He would make me feel safe.

    Then one day he changed
He started talking to other girls

He wouldn't hold my hand anymore
    He started to ignore me.

He would just walk by me and not say a word.
I wanted to talk to him again, but I was afraid.

We decided to go seperate ways.
We didn't have any inside jokes anymore.

We went from soul mates to strangers.
We didn't even look at each other anymore.

That was the end of us.
My love for him faded away.

  36. There once was a boy named David.
He was a very smart little boy.
He grew up in a small little town.
Where everyone knew each other it was about 400 people in it.
David lived with his mother and his father.
He had a little brother and a sister.
David’s father was a very hard worker.
His dad worked 5 days out of week and never missed a day.
One day David’s father got a phone call home.
    His father got laid off.
His father did not know what to say when he found out the news.
He did not know how to tell his family that he did not have a job anymore.
So everyday he left the house looking for a new job.
It was such a small town that every job was filled.
He got really stressed out he did not know how he would provide for his family.
He started trying to find solutions.
One day he called David outside to talk to him.
Once David got outside he told David about what’s been going on.
He told David that he found one solution for the problem.
There was good and bad news to it.
The good news was that David and the family will have money for a very long time.
The bad news was that he wasn’t going to be there anymore.
Three days later David got a phone call.
    His dad was found dead.
    David was shocked.
David and his family were giving checks from his father insurance.
David father gave his life to provide for his family.
    He did whatever it took.
David loved his father for that and he respected him for that.

  37. Beautiful Face

    What a beautiful face
The face that any man could fall in love with
    Such deceiving look
    Such gorgeous smile
Fascination is what it's all about

Once she took a look for the first time,
The world froze upon my mind
    Indecisiveness taking its toll
Clueless as to what I should do

    Such spontaneous stare
    Making any man blind
Suffocating the naked eye with such beauty
    Oh, how my heart shattered
Seeing such beautiful face with such wicked soul
    My God, this can't be

    What a gorgeous nightmare
    Was it my fault?
    Was it my indecisiveness?
    How dare you betray me!
No one could ever hover over my presence

    What a beautiful face
One that could never be replaced
    Gold is easily dissolved,
    Once you compare the two
    Oh, such overwhelming beauty
One that's living life with such evilness
    Oh, what a beautiful face

oh yea, i can not forget the attitude

  39. "don't let her go"
Look her and I weren’t meant to be
    It wasn’t destiny
    That put us together
    And we weren’t forever
But all’s still fair in love and war
Too bad I can’t love her like I used to anymore
I know you’re not full of yourself
    So think about this
She’s no doubt the kind of girl you will miss
    No need for any betting
Because losing her is something you will never stop regretting
It’ll haunt you for the rest of your life
And no matter who you’re with
    No matter where you go
It’ll replay in your mind like your own personal horror show
No matter how hard you try to forget
    You will always know
That you shouldn’t have even thought about letting her go
And if you do let her go
    Then you will know
Every bit of pain and suffering I have ever known
I know you wouldn’t want that
    Heck I didn’t want that
But I realized too late what I did after the fact
What I said I never wanted
    And that I’d never do
Obviously that part didn’t come true
So I’ll ask you this once
    Which one are you?
Are you the type that says they’ll change and never quite follow through
Or are you the type that says they’ll change and they do follow through
Either way just make sure that your love is pure and true
Or else that one mistake will always haunt you.

  40. " Two Friends"

He doesn't talk about his past

    Why would he?

    It is a tragic story

Having to abandon his best friend

    But for good reason

If he didn't leave he would've died

    Now his friend is furious

    Feeling betrayed, he wants revenge

Both continue on with their lives

But whenever they meet try to settle their feud

The first time they meet neither wins

One falls out of a building

    The other is blown away

The second time they meet neither wins

Though this fight is not as brutal

    Both leave with small bruises

He leaves to meet his friend for a final time

    neither wins

The best friend falls with a gun wound

The other falls with a stab wound

    Did he survive?

    I don’t know

But what I do know is that you’re going to carry that weight

A loving mother and a outgoing father
Both have taught me how to be a good person
When I'm down, they pick me up

My father is one of my idols
I want to be just as he is
    An outgoing and lovely man
Hopefully, I will be half the man he is

My mother is like an angel from heaven
When she hugs you, it is like a bear is hugging you
She always tells me I can do better
    The best mother ever

They have supported me in whatever I do
I strive to make them proud
They expect a lot of me
I want to make them as proud as possible

I don't know what I would do without them
    They mean everything to me
I'm always want to me them smile
I'm very lucky to have such a great mother and father.

  42. Mistakes

    I am not perfect
    I know I make mistakes
    but I always mean well
I am sorry, I am not perfect

I have hurt people with my mistakes
Although i do not mean to
things happen and they do not go well
I am sorry, I am not perfect

I have failed at many things because of my mistakes
Things do not always go my way because of my mistakes
I fall down and have trouble getting up
I am sorry, I am not perfect

    Mistakes happen a lot
But each one teaches me a lesson
I am sorry, I am not perfect
But I am the best that I can be and that is enough.

  43. "Soccer"

    Soccer here, soccer there
Soccer dominates all other sports, some call it unfair.
Soccer is by far the best sport on earth
I know this because I have been playing since birth

Running down the field and scoring a goal,
has got to be better than putting a ball in a hole
Or scoring a touchdown, or hitting a homerun,
How could you say soccer isn't the best?
    It is oh so fun

    Some say soccer isn't physical,
But I would have to disagree
    Two players could collide,
    and make you say OMG
Balls could come flying at you,
    and possibly make you pee
But if that ball happened to fly into the net,
you would stand and shout with glee

Above are some reasons why soccer is the best,
reasons that prove soccer outdoes all the rest
I feel so relieved that I have got these facts off my chest,
I really am glad i play soccer,
    I feel so blessed
If you want to talk crap about soccer,
    be my guest
But playing any other sport has to leave you stressed
I know this poem may happen to leave you depressed,
    but the truth hurts,
    so beware of cardiac arrest.

She is afraid to be alone

    She has to be brave
it is a matter of faith

She has tiers running down her eyes
    and fears as she cries

    She wakes up at night
praying to god it'll be alright

She doesn't want to believe it
but it's hard because she can see it

She doesn't want to let go
because now she has to be alone

She wishes it was a dream
but deep down she has the need to scream

    She has to be strong
but knows there is something wrong

As she lays her in bed
    long gone dead

  45. Strike One!

    Strike one! A fastball,
So fast you don't even see it.
You step out of the box to get your call,
Your coach says to get a hit!
You step back in the box ready for the next pitch.

Strike two! A swing and a miss,
You could almost see the flames behind that pitch.
Look at the crowd as you lose your bliss.
You have a feeling of complete diss.
You know it's time to hit the ball.

Foul ball! You almost had it!
You have that little sense of relief.
You get in the box, ready to hit.
Here comes the pitch, Bam! Going, going, gone!

You watch the ball soar over the fence.
Everyone is jumping with joy, you just won!
The pressure becomes a lot less dense.
The game is now over, the task is done.
You look at the scoreboard which shows you won.

I did what every teenager does
I rolled over and hit the snooze
    I wasnt worried
My alarm was set very early
I had plenty of time to get ready
    I arrived at school
The day was not to difficult
By the time the bell rang
I was so ready to get out
I was really looking forward to baseball
Something about it calms me down
It is like my escape route
The smell of the fresh cut grass on the baseball field was great
    After practice I went home
    Did some homework
    Ate some food
Went to sleep to start it all over again tomorrow

    Here she is
    Dreaming of a world that
    Requires imagination to get in
    Her pain and struggle
Do not exist in this place
It relieves her, takes all her weight
    The weight of reality
The weight of a life that should not be
Be given to her worst enemy
Given to the most brutal tyrant
    Only to her abusive parent
    No, this is her escape
    Escape from the real world
Did I forget to tell you?
She's a thirteen year old girl
The escape from the pain of all her scars
The ones on her stomach and lashes by bull whip
And the four letter word across her right hip
    Excuse after excuse she made
For the people that caused her nothing but pain
The only thing that brought her serenity
    Was her little world
    Her escape from reality
She finaly has her chance to break through
The chance to become brand new
The chance for her to escape her fate
She's finally relieved of all her weight
A brand new girl is what she became
One invisible to the eyes of pain
    She finally has ber serenity
    She's finally strong
    She finally broke free

I ran as fast as I could to the stop
But when I got there all I could do was drop

I knew what I must do now
Start to walk with my face full of scowl
I knew I was going to be late
I might not even get my lunch plate

I get there soon enough to see my class
I watch them go outside to play on the grass
I go inside tired as I can be
To see my teacher asking what’s wrong with me

I say to her this won’t happen again
As she says its ok go out and play with your friend

  50. "Fading Light"
Walking down a narrow well light hall way unsure why I’m there. I notice a cold breeze yet there are no windows to be found then I notice there is no roof to thins hall way. The moon was visible it was brighter and more beautiful than most nights. As I walk I just gaze at it but then I feel a strange presents in the hall way. I look back down and the once well light hall way is covered in a thick darkness unable to see far in front of myself. The darkness was closing in on me the farther I Walked the closer it got closer and closer with every step. A panic sets in and I start to race down the hall way then a crashing sound breaks the silence. I had fallen through the floor but wean I look up there was nothing in sight no building just water. The once bright moon was now covered by large coal black clouds. I was confused I was under water yet I felt no lack of oxygen but I did feel a sharp pain in my leg. A rusty ankle brace clamped too tight around my leg as its jagged edges cut deep into my leg letting blood float away. I was not sure what the chain was attached too for the darkness blocked my vision. Not sure to what is truly going on I’m sure of one thing this is how it ends. My one true regret is my inability to tell my friends and family how much I truly loved them. I get no final words to tell them not even a far well. As I float there thinking of the warm memories of my past a luminous light pierces the sky but a faint one. As I look at the bright light I felt something as if a hand was wrapped around my arm, not able to see what it was because my arm had been consumed by the darkness. The light had grown larger and it seemed as if the water was draining away. Then I felt drops of water on my arm I asked myself was it raining? Then I heard a loud cry like scream “don’t go please don’t go”. I looked around but no one was to be found but the darkness had started to fade away. All of a sudden a sharp pain hit my heart as if it was just pierced by a thin blade. I opened my eye to find myself lying in a bed surrounded by the one I love.

  51. It Was Game Time

    It was game day,
    It was raining,
    Perfect weather for football,
I was so anxious and pumped up,
    Five o’clock, two more hours!

    It was time to stretch,
I was so anxious which caused my muscles to be tense,
It began to hurt when I stretch,
I knew I had to get loose,
    After that,
    It was game time.

    I put everything on,
Then went with my group to go warm up on the field,
Despite the downpour, a crowd of fans still came to the game,
    This pumped me up,
And made me want to win even more
    Ten minutes till game time!

    It was time,
    We had the national anthem,
Then I went out with my teammate for the coin toss,
    That we won,
And then ran to the chute that we come out of,
The smoke came out, and that was our cue to go out,
    Then I realized,
    Game time was now!

  52. Blessings

    It’s all in God’s plan.
Needles hooked up to an IV, chemotherapy every two weeks, yet
blessings all around; she knows this is just the beginning.

    Some people have survived it;
    I’m worried she won’t.
    It’s all in God’s plan.

    She knows in her heart
    somehow she’s protected.
    Blessings all around.

I was too young to remember.
I just hoped she would live, but
    It’s all in God’s plan.

She survived ten years being free.
She’ll never be able to thank God enough.
    Blessings all around.

    “Mom, I love you.”
I said it then and say it now.
    It’s all in God’s plan.
    Blessings all around.

  53. Plans Change

Friends will always come and go
Everyone that walks into your life will make some kind of impact
    I planned on you being in my life for a long time;
    But plans change

You always made me smile no matter my mood
You were taken way too soon
    Friends since 4th grade
I’d known you for almost 5 years

    Wrong place, wrong time
That’s how you were taken away

    As I sit in my room thinking of you;
    Tears fall down my face
I’m reminiscing on the good times, trying not to focus on the bad

I’m grasping the book you gave me
Something so simple, yet I can’t let it go

As I sit here I’m thinking of you
Tears streaming down my face, even though I know tears won’t bring you back
It’s crazy how fast you were taken away

I’m trying to pull myself together
    You’d want me to be happy;
I’ll try to be happy…for you.

  54. The Fearsome Bee

    By Stephen Cameron

No creature on earth has the power
To incite terror as the friend of the flower.
Yes, this simple creature is the bee
And yet wherever it goes men, women, and children flee.
It‘s on its way to pollinate,
But instead it manages to intimidate.
You would suspect that it destroys whole cities
By the reaction of the little kiddies.
I have seen people scream and panic
At this small creature on its journey botanic
It is not menacing or formidable,
But people swat and swing at the bee despicable.
It took a pit-stop on your shoulder,
You were frightened; your friends were no bolder.
You quiver with fear at the tiny scourge
And from this earth it must be purged.
Because it landed on your lunch,
You must make that bee go crunch,
And when the bee again eludes,
You simply smash your lovely foods.
And in fright it takes to wing,
And people yell, “It’s gonna sting!”
Those few people who are susceptible
I find their reaction quite acceptable.
The rest of the people who act as if they’re three
I find that they simply sicken me.
Because you have acted so young,
I sincerely hope that you get stung!
For goodness sake, it’s just a bee!

  55. A Granddaughter's Promise To Meme
    My promise to you is
    you'll never be alone,
left out in the cold to moan or groan.

For if ever there was a true star in life,
    Meme, you're that one
    that shines so bright.

    When you think you're old
    and not just right,
    just rest and know
    it will be all right.

    Because for me,
    you're everything,
and I'm just so glad that God made you my Meme.

I'll shelter you during tears of sorrow
    and always assure you
    that there will be tomorrow.

    My dear, Meme,
    I'll always be near
because you are the most cherished gift
    for only me.

So, please, never forget the promise
I make you with all of my heart.

That I will always hold you and
    take care of your heart
    whenever we're apart.

  56. My Oath

    My dear best friend,
    I will always love you.
This is my oath to you.

We’ve spent every minute possible together this year,
And I couldn’t have asked for a better person to spend it with,
    My dear best friend.

I will hold our memories near and dear to my heart forever,
    And I will never forget your laughter or your singing. I will never forget you;
This is my oath to you.

You’re funny, athletic, beautiful and smart; you love Chick-Fil-A and you tolerate my stupidity.
Your sarcasm kills me, but I still love it. I love every part of you.
    My dear best friend.

Although you’re graduating and leaving me here,
You will remain in my heart forever and ever.
    My dear best friend,
This is my oath to you.

  57. “Game Day”
Today is different from all the other days of the week.
I can’t pay attention during class because I have one thing on your mind.
All I can think about is football.
    Today is game day.

I wait in the locker room hours before the game.
I can already feel the butterflies in my stomach coming.
I sit in the locker room and think about the battle that is about to take place.
I think about what I have to do to make sure that my team is victorious.

    We can’t stall any longer.
    It is game time.
With adrenaline pumping through my body,
I feel like I can run through a brick wall.

    With the opening kickoff underway,
I realize there is no retreating.
I say a quick prayer to myself,
And head out onto the field.

Throughout the game I sacrifice my body for my brothers.
    They sacrifice theirs for me.
I get knocked down five times,
    But get back up six.

    With the clock winding down,
    I realize victory is mine.
All my hard work was not in vain.
    I couldn’t be happier.

The coach tells my team what you did well or bad,
But then congratulates us on the win.
    But no time for celebration,
There is another war next week.

  58. Success
This won’t come to those who do not work for it
Carrying out that work will be hard
In the mind, the light labeled determination must be lit

To find that determination you must dive in
    Deep into your mind
You must find the desire to win

    Use this desire as fuel
To propel yourself toward your goal
    There are no rules

Success is what we thrive for
But we must find the determination to get there
Success is something to live for
You’ll know it when you get there

    Honey Beats
    ----------

    With beats of sweetest nectar,
She sings a song to you:
    Honey dipped with candy dew
    So gently pleasing, too.

    Frosted rolls and glazed cakes
    Will always set the stakes
For the silent, yet wishful dreams she knew.

    Let pastries moisten her lips;
Let the morning's smile bless with sugared sips
    Of strawberry syrup

So sweet she is, calling to the world
How fine she is, this darling candied girl,
And she'll give her dress a whirl
As she let's all her words unfurl

    With beats of sweetest nectar
She sings a song to you
    Honey dipped with candy dew
    So gently pleasing, too.

She'll tell you that it's true,
    She'll tell you
    She loves you.

    Please listen
    She loves you.

    Don't ignore her
    She loves you.

    She's trying hard
    Because she loves you.

    So you will notice
    That her feelings are true

So with beats of sweetest nectar
She sings a song to you
    Honey dipped with candy dew
    So gently pleasing, too.

  60. Boston

    It was a horrible day.
    Runners were astray;
    The families were running.

    There was so much smoke
    That some almost choked;
    Debris was everywhere.

    Some even fainted
    Because roads were painted
    In deep gory red.

    Some were crying
    While others were dying
    Right in the cold street.

    Families torn apart
All because of two evil hearts,
    But now their done.

    America can not rest
Because there are still many pests,
But we will not stop till we get them all.

  61. Kites

    Humans are much like kites;
    We both want freedom,
But are held back by something.

A kite flies until it is pulled back
    By its attached string,
And it can no longer fly farther.

A human goes after her dreams,
But then stops when she starts to worry
Of not achieving her dreams or may see "reality."

So maybe if we cut those strings
    Of worry and control,
We could get what we truly want.

  62. My Special Day

The day is almost here, and my heart is skipping faster each and every day.
I feel my palms sweat each day, and I feel my legs start to shake.
My head feels as if it's spinning on a wheel.

My stomach is turning upside down, and I feel so sick.
At school I can't think of anything else but that day.
I started the countdown way too many days ago.

My family just tells me to calm down and stop stressing,
But all I can do is stress even more and hope it all turns out well.
When that day comes, I'll just pray and pray for blessings.

I practice every other day, and so far it all seems great.
When the guys don't come over for practice, I get angry and disappointed in them.
I know that when the day comes they'll do great and hopefully I will too.

The dress is ready and so are my shoes.
The invitations are here, and I can't wait to hand them out.
The party bus was rented may days ago, and the DJ is set.

I say my prayers and I have faith.
I know that God will lead my way.
When the day of my quince is here, I know I'll shine bright and high.

    Once upon a time
You used to sing to me,
But now all I do is romanticize.

This place is only a hole,
Yet I don't want to go.
I wish we could stay here
    Forever alone.

I'll say yes and do more for less.
    Then I'll change everything
Just to make this perfect again.

    The bitter in you
    And the quitter in me
Is bigger than the both of us.

    I'll be your disaster,
    So fire away.

There is nothing you can't do
    If you believe,
Just put your mind to it.

There isn't anything that can stop you.
There is no one that can get in your way.
There is nothing you can't do.

    If you want to fly,
If you want to touch the sky,
Just put your mind to it.

If you want to walk on the moon,
    It's only one small step.
There is nothing you can't do.

When your back is against the wall
    and there is no hope,
Just put your mind to it.

  66. When was the last time that you thought,
Other then when you were being taught?
We don’t think before we do things anymore.
Not thinking leaves our minds and bodies sore.

I thought that I thought every day in school,
But all I really do is listen and drool.
    School is a drag
Always having to carry around that heavy book bag.

    School requires much thinking,
And when I don’t understand, I feel like I’m sinking.
I find myself now thinking about school,
Rather than this poem, I feel like a fool.

Now I can’t get back on track,
    How sad is that?
